Mercury Lynx Headlight

The Mercury Lynx Headlight ensures the driver can see clearly ahead at night, but also assures you will be seen. The initial Lynx models featured basic sealed-beam halogen units which worked by having a tungsten filament glow inside halogen gas. This produced a warm beam but was inexpensive and short lived. The evolution of this Headlight and those from other automotive companies reflect the reality of the times. As styling and aerodynamics became more important, Mercury molded composite housing into the body which blended turn signals with the Headlight lens. Subsequent Lynx models featured increasingly brilliant xenon HID options that ignite xenon gas to emit a whiter, longer throw. Some featured even more efficient energy-saving LEDs that use tiny semiconductors, run cool, and last for years. Plastic lenses are generally applied in every type of Headlight. They help in reducing weight, but they also haze up because of the sun and road dirt. Consequently, such Headlights can lose their usefulness over time. When drivers compare the three systems, they will find the halogen costs the least, the xenon shines the greatly farth, and the LED balances efficiency with longevity, giving Mercury Lynx owners practical choices when selecting the right Headlight for their daily routes.

Mercury Lynx Headlight Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace sealed beam headlights and halogen bulbs on Mercury Lynx?
    A:
To replace sealed beam headlights, first disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Remove the headlight bezel screws and take off the bezel. Next, remove the headlight retaining screws without disturbing the adjustment screws, then take out the retainer and pull the headlight out enough to disconnect the electrical connector before removing the headlight completely. For installation, plug in the electrical connector, position the headlight, and secure it with the retainer and screws. Finally, place the headlight bezel back and install the retaining screws, ensuring to have the headlights adjusted by a dealer service department or service station as soon as possible. For halogen bulb types, open the hood and disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the bulb. Rotate the retaining ring about 1/8-turn counterclockwise and slide it off the base, then carefully pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Insert the new bulb into the socket, ensuring the flat on the plastic base is upward, align the socket locating tabs with the grooves, and push the socket firmly into the base. Slide the retaining ring on and turn it clockwise until it stops, then plug in the electrical connector, test the headlight operation, and close the hood. Adjust the headlights at a dealer service department or service station at the earliest opportunity.
