The process involves marking the positions of spiders, the center yoke, and the centering socket. Remove snap-rings and press out bearing cups. Then remove the spider from center yoke. Remove the centering socket yoke, and snap-rings from center yoke, and driveshaft yoke respectively. Press bearing out and separate the spider from the center yoke. Clean all the parts before packing new universal joint bearings with grease. The slip joint must be carefully pulled out of the driveshaft for inspection purposes only. After this, it should be lubricated, reassembled, and secured using a new dust boot seal as well as clamps. Start by placing spider into driveshaft yoke, installing bearing cups, securing them with snap-rings, pack socket relief and ball with grease before pressing center yoke into such position.

Last, place the centering ball on the stud and attach the driveshaft with centering socket yoke and do the same procedure for the front spider; The alignment of the flange bolts should be correct before tightening the bolts to the required torque.

Extract the snap-rings from the bearing cups, then use sockets or pipe pieces in a vise to press one cup while displacing the opposite one into a larger socket, gripping and twisting the bearing cup out with pliers. Clean the yoke and inspect for damage, then obtain a repair kit that includes trunnion, cups, needle rollers, seals, washers, and snap-rings. Before reassembly, pack grease into the trunnion reservoirs and needle bearings without displacing them. Position the trunnion in the yoke, partially install one cup, insert the trunnion, partially install the opposite cup, center the trunnion, and press both cups into place using sockets slightly smaller than the bearing cups, ensuring needle bearings remain in place. Install the snap-rings and align the shaft yokes to install the other bearing cups similarly. For the injected plastic type, destroy the production line plastic retainers and fit conventional snap-ring repair kits. Support the joint yoke in a press and use a forked tool to apply pressure to eject the bearing cups, then twist them out with a vise. Clean any plastic remnants and obtain a repair kit with a prelubricated trunnion assembly and other components. Assemble the joint, noting that snap-rings are installed inside the yokes, and if the joint is stiff after reassembly, apply hammer blows to free the bearing cups. For the double cardan type constant velocity joint, use an inspection kit to dismantle the joint for inspection, marking the flange and coupling yokes for reassembly. Disengage the flange yoke and trunnion from the centering ball, remove the seal, washers, spring, and ball seats, then clean and inspect all components for wear, replacing any damaged parts. Remove plastic from the coupling yoke groove if necessary, inspect and replace the centering ball if damaged, and press a new ball onto the stud. Lubricate all parts with grease from the repair kit and insert them into the ball seat cavity in the correct order, lubricate the seal lips, and press it into the cavity, filling it with grease. A press or large vise will be needed for this procedure and using a relatively large charge one can take the driveshaft to the repair or machine shop for the replacement of the universal joint. Start by a removal of the driveshaft and then position the components in the engine compartment relative to the driveshaft tube for the reassembly. Remove the snap rings with the help of small pliers: put the driveshaft on an arbor press or a workbench with a vise. Fit a pipe or a large socket over one bearing cap and a slightly smaller socket on the counter part and use vise or press to force out the cap till it is half off the yoke, then use vise or pliers to remove it completely. Do the same for the other bearing cap and then for all reusable components, clean these, check that a new U-joint is replaced not in pieces of the old worn parts. Grease the new universal joint bearings with chassis grease as per any instruction given for the lubrication of the bearings. Center the spider in the yoke, screw one bearing cap partially and see that grease fitting is in an off set manner. Place the spider and thread the bearing caps into place, be very careful not to scratch the dust seals, then fit the snap rings, where a brass or plastic hammer can be used to fully seat them will. Replace the grease fitting with a new one and then pump the joint with grease, but do not over grease the joint. To deal with a double cardan U-joint, identify the positions of the spiders and yokes, then, remove the snap rings and also support the driveshaft in a like manner. As earlier, lift the bearing caps; take off the spider and centering socket yoke and wash the parts. grease the new bearings properly, place the spider and screw the bearing caps mainly with adequate regard of the dust seals. Place the snap rings on the worm shaft, the grease fitting should also be installed and the joint should also be filled with grease, the socket relief and ball should also be packed with auto chassis grease. Place the center bearing of driveshaft above the spider ends and finally fit the bearing and engage the snap rings. Last, place the centering ball on the stud and attach the driveshaft with centering socket yoke and do the same procedure for the front spider; The alignment of the flange bolts should be correct before tightening the bolts to the required torque.
