For the 4.0L V6 engine, the CMP sensor is located on top of the forward end of the left valve cover. Begin by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, disconnect the electrical connector from the CMP sensor, then remove the mounting bolt and the sensor. If reinstalling the same sensor, check the O-ring for any signs of hardening or damage. For the 4.6L V8 engine, which has two CMP sensors located on the front ends of each cylinder head, start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and removing the air intake duct. Disconnect the electrical connector from each CMP sensor by depressing the release tab, then remove the mounting bolts and the sensors. Discard the old O-rings and ensure to use new ones during installation, which follows the reverse order of removal. In the case of the 3.7L V6 and 5.0L V8 engines, which utilize four CMP sensors (two at the rear end of each cylinder head), disconnect the negative battery terminal. For the 3.7L engines, if removing the right side CMP sensor(s), the battery and battery tray must be removed. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the CMP sensors, remove the mounting bolts, and pull the sensors out of the cylinder head. Lubricate the new O-rings with clean engine oil before installing the sensors back into the cylinder head, completing the process by reversing the removal steps.
