Ford Fusion Neutral Safety Switch

The Ford Fusion Neutral Safety Switch prevents the engine from cranking unless the transmission lever is in the neutral or park position for safe starting. The Neutral Safety Switch is wired into the starter circuit so that current can only pass when the shifter is in neutral or park. The current is blocked in all drive ranges. The Neutral Safety Switch in the updated Ford service manuals has a simple description, one whose answer is yes or no. An on-off strategy is what Ford Fusion has deployed on every model built to date because the aim hasn't varied, so the firm hasn't needed radically different variants. Whether clients own an early Fusion sedan or a recent hybrid, they experience the same feel that Ford Fusion tries to inculcate. Though the Neutral Safety Switch does its work silently every time the key turns, trust in the Neutral Safety Switch is just as important. Ford owners can have peace of mind that accidental movement will not surprise them and their vehicle powertrain is protected during startup.

Ford Fusion Neutral Safety Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Neutral Safety Switch on the Ford Fusion?
    A:
The FNR5 (5-speed) transaxle removal involves shifting to neutral, raising the vehicle, and removing the underbody cover. The TR sensor's electrical connector is disconnected, and the shift cable is detached from the manual control lever. For installation, the sensor is reinstalled and aligned, followed by the lever. The shift cable and electrical connector are reconnected. Installation is the reverse of removal. For the 6-speed transaxle, the TR sensor is part of the Transaxle Control Module (TCM) and can't be serviced separately.
