Ford F-250 Cooling Fan Assembly

The Ford F-250 Cooling Fan Assembly is what draws fresh air through the radiator when airflow is insufficient. Under low-speed, off-road, and idle driving conditions, engine performance can suffer from heat damage as it works very hard to tow heavy loads. The entire Cooling Fan Assembly, found next to the radiator on Ford pickups, features a shrouded fan blade and an electric or mechanical drive that directs air over the coolant passages. The principle behind how the early F-250 trucks worked is that their fan spun with the engine via a clutch to supply air that rose as engine speed rose. The updated iterations of the F-250 model have undergone a critical design modification by replacing the mechanical fan with an electric Cooling Fan Assembly driven by a dedicated motor. This change has allowed for computerized control, which provides strong cooling even when the engine is on idle. Meanwhile, at highway pace, it cuts drag, which results in improvement of efficiency. Each Cooling Fan Assembly, regardless of style, is mounted in a molded shroud that directs air through the radiator core for maximum heat transfer. Opting for the right power unit will keep Ford's stout workhorse at peak performance whether it's crawling on the jobsite or cruising down the highways. Utilizing a Cooling Fan Assembly, every Ford operator can depend on their F-250 being cool under heavy loads and extreme weather.

Ford F-250 Cooling Fan Assembly Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to check and replace Cooling Fan Assembly and Fan Clutch on the front of Ford F-250?
    A:
To inspect fan clutch in vehicles, cold start the engine and turn the fan manually to ensure it rotates smoothly. Construct a flat box with an open center through which the fan clutch can fit, start the engine, and listen for that first "roar" when the running fan kicks in. The sound should die away within five minutes. Place the flat box in front of the Radiator, start the engine, and keep it above 2,500 rpm while checking on fan engagement as well as engine temperature. If it reaches the highest safe temperature without engaging the clutch, replace it. Start the engine after removing the board and raise its speed above 2,500 rpm to study the slowing down of funs. Replace the fan clutch if it does not disengage even after five minutes. For the removal of bolt-on fan clutches and their installation, take off the radiator shroud, unscrew the clutch from the Water Pump, and pull out the whole assembly. Reinstallation is a reverse procedure.
