It is only possible to remove the accumulator using a spring lock coupling tool. First of all, have the air conditioning system released at a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning store before going further. Next, uninstall the battery and the battery tray, PCM and the PCM mounting bracket have to be also taken out. If the condenser line is connected to the accumulator and the evaporator line to the line coupling at the firewall, remove the latter: to do this, insert the special tool into both male and female fittings and push it as far as the coupling heads will be visible through the window in the tool; then, pull the lines apart. Take off and throw away the 0-rings and stop all the lines and fitting you opened to avoid contamination of the air conditioning system. Do not forget to release the line coupling cover this is by pulling a plastic clip before using the spring lock coupling tool. After that, unbolt the leads to the accumulator and pull the splitter out of the high pressure line, take out the accumulator. Replace all fittings with new 0-rings and drowned them with the proper refrigerant oil. If a replacement accumulator is to be installed, drill a one-half inch hole in the center of the accu- mulator and drain the oil into a measuring cup, then return the measured amount plus two ounces of oil-refrigerant into the replacement accumulator. Tighten the fitting of the line to the accumulator to the correct torque after which the process of installation is as follows: Last, go back to the shop where the vehicle was discharged to, to have the system evacuated, leak tested, and recharged.
