If you own a model made in 2001 or later, you need to undo the entire driveaxle to access the inner two parts of the CV joint system. You can repair and replace the inboard part of the driveaxle through its tripod design and boot, but you have to change the other CV joint part like a whole piece. First, take out the driveaxle from the car and put it in a vise, but line the jaws with wood or cloth before clamping it down. First, cut and throw away the boot clamps. Next, bend the tab slightly and take off the tripod assembly from the outer race. Find the inner stop ring on the shaft and lower it down, then pull out the circlip and put the tripod unit aside. Check your tripod for damage before rebuilding it since worn components cannot be fixed. To put the axle back together, slide a fresh clamp and boot onto the axleshaft, attach a new inner stop ring, and connect the tripod assembly. Squeeze in lubricant into the outer race, lay down the boot, make the pressurization uniform, and lock with a clamp. When replacing the CV joint and boot on the outside of the driveline, you have to remove both the inner joint and boot to access them, snip the boot clamps, and pull the boot off from the inner joint. If your CV joint grease has rough particles, you need a new CV joint. Clean up the CV joint carefully, look for problems with its condition, and correct them before moving on. Put the new outer boot on, attach the clamps, smear grease inside the CV joint, and fasten the clamps. Then put the inner CV joint and boot back together and reconnect the driveaxle.
