To remove the front differential on 1991-1994 models, first raise the vehicle and then install jackstands. The driveshaft should be disconnected, brake calipers removed, tie-rod ends detached, and stabilizer bar taken out. The coil spring could be compressed with a floor jack, after which it can be removed and thereafter the shock absorber can be dismantled. Remove the radius arm including its bracket followed by the pivot bolt. While 1995 and later models only require loosening lug nuts to raise the vehicle and remove the wheel(s), caliper, and brake disc. Disconnect the ABS sensor, remove the hub drive axle/nut, and support the lower control arm. Remove the control arm balljoint nut plus stabilizer bar and pry the inner CV joint assembly. Press out the drive axle from the hub then disconnect the front driveshaft. Support the differential, remove mounting bolts, and pull out axle. Put in new circlip, grease differential seal lips before inserting stub shafts. Do not forget to tighten all bolts/nuts properly!

After raising the front of the vehicle, the removal process includes removing the front wheels and front brake calipers. Additionally, the locking hubs, wheel bearings, and locknuts are removed.

For axleshaft assembly universal joint replacement, the internal snap-rings are removed, and subsequent steps are similar to those for driveshaft universal joints. The universal joint might need replacement due to wear or damage.

Remove the rear brake drums or discs/calipers. Remove the nuts and bolts that secure the brake backing plate (or disc brake adapter and dust shield) to the axle. Detach the vent hose from the axle housing. Securing the axle housing to a transmission jack is essential to facilitate the controlled and safe removal of the axle.

The rear axle assembly is a hypoid semi-floating type.

Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Then, remove the wheel(s).

Remove the plastic retainer ring from the end of the driveaxle using snap-ring pliers and discard the ring. A new retainer ring must be used during installation.

An optional Traction-Lok limited slip rear axle is available. This differential allows for normal operation until one wheel loses traction. It utilizes multi-disc clutch packs and a speed-sensitive engagement mechanism that locks both axleshafts together, applying equal rotational power to both wheels.

Raise the front of the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands, and remove the front wheels.

Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels.

Remove the nuts and bolts that secure the brake backing plate to the axle. Carefully separate the backing plate from the axle housing and support it with wire, ensuring not to bend the brake line or allow the backing plate to hang on the line. Separate the backing plates from the axle and tie them up out of the way.
