Ford Escape Release Bearing

The driver can separate engine power from the gearbox smoothly with the Ford Escape Release Bearing. This allows Escape gear changes to happen quickly and quietly. Located on the clutch housing, the Release Bearing slides on a hollow shaft and pushes against the pressure plate springs when the pedal is pressed. Each movement breaks the connection between the crankshaft and transmission so that the gear may be engaged without grinding. When the pedal returns, the Release Bearing retracts and drive force flows again. During the model's production run, Ford kept the basic mechanical layout of the Escape same as with units applied throughout the wider Ford family. Furthermore, every generation of Escape uses hydraulic or cable action to move the Release Bearing with a clutch fork, yet its core function never changed. Wear comes after many miles or rough driving. Dirty or lost lubrication or misadjusted cable makes the Release Bearing rattle. A rattling Release Bearing shakes the pedal, stiffens the clutch, and complicates shifting. A factory-spec replacement will restore the crisp and reliable feel expected from any Ford Escape on the road.

Ford Escape Release Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove, inspect, and install a clutch release bearing and Clutch Fork on Ford Escape?
    A:
Dust produced by clutch wear is hazardous to your health. DO NOT blow it out with compressed air and DO NOT inhale it. DO NOT use gasoline or petroleum-based solvents to remove the dust. Brake system cleaner should be used to flush the dust into a drain pan. After the clutch components are wiped clean with a rag, dispose of the contaminated rags and cleaner in a covered, marked container. REMOVAL: Remove the transaxle. Pull the clutch fork off the ballstud and slide the release bearing off the input shaft along with the clutch fork. INSPECTION: Wipe off the bearing with a clean rag and inspect it for damage, wear, and cracks. Hold the center of the bearing and rotate the outer portion while applying pressure. If the bearing doesn't turn smoothly or if it's noisy or rough, replace it. INSTALLATION: Lightly lubricate the friction surfaces of the release bearing, ballstud, and the input shaft bearing retainer with high-temperature grease. Install the clutch fork and bearing onto the input shaft. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
