  • Q: How to remove and install the intake manifold in 4.0L SOHC V6 engine on 2003 Ford Ranger?
    A: To remove the intake manifold, first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, remove the intake air duct from the air filter housing and disconnect the accelerator and cruise control cables from the throttle valve, positioning the cables aside after removing the harness clips. For 2006 and later models, also remove the main electrical connector from the engine side of the PCM and the main harness support bolt. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the upper intake manifold, marking each hose with tape for correct reassembly. Disconnect the IAC valve, TPS, and any other electrical connectors that may interfere with manifold removal, as well as the EGR valve vacuum hose and the EVAP canister purge solenoid vacuum hose. For 2010 and earlier models, remove the ignition wires from the coil pack and spark plugs, then remove the intake manifold mounting bolts and lift the manifold from the engine compartment. For 2011 models, remove the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid, disconnect the power brake booster vacuum hose at the intake manifold if necessary, disconnect the spark plug wires, and remove the ignition coil.
