- Q: How to remove and install the intake manifold in 4.0L pushrod V6 engine on 2004 Ford Ranger?A: When performing this procedure you have to turn off the fuel pump and ignition and disconnect the car battery's negative terminal. Next step is to pull out the ignition coil and the coil mounting bracket and finally the upper intake manifold. Remove the valve covers and the camshaft position sensor, should it be needed. Loosen the electrical connectors of the various sensors and the fuel injectors and the fuel line that connects to the fuel rail. Pull the heater hose off the front of the intake manifold and either pull the thermostat and housing or take off the upper end of the radiator hose. The intake manifold nuts and bolts: loosen, take off; if it's seized on the head: tap lightly with a soft-face hammer or pry off very gently.
