  Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the driveshaft, noting that some transmission fluid may drain out when the driveshaft universal joint is withdrawn from the extension housing. To remove the oil seal from the end of the extension housing, use a special tool available at most auto parts stores, or if access allows, a thin blade screwdriver or chisel, taking care not to damage the sealing surface on the housing. A special tool is also required to remove the extension housing bushing. Inspect the oil seal contact surface on the universal joint yoke for any scoring or burrs that could damage the new oil seal; replace the yoke if it is damaged. Check the extension housing counterbore for burrs and remove them with emery cloth or medium grit wet-and-dry sandpaper, then clean any sanding residue with a cloth dipped in solvent. If the extension housing bushing was removed, install a new one using a special tool. Install a new extension housing oil seal, ensuring it is completely seated in the counterbore, and use a punch and hammer or a large socket or length of pipe of the proper diameter for installation. Finally, install the driveshaft, lower the vehicle, and check the transmission fluid level, topping up if necessary.
