    A: Defective valve stem seals and broken valve springs can be repaired without the removal of the cylinder heads-two special tools and a compressed air source are required. A length of nylon rope must be used if compressed air cannot be supplied in order to stop the valves from falling into the cylinder. Start by pulling off the rocker arm cover of the cylinder head that has the problem and, if all the valve stems are to be sealed, the other cover as well. Next, remove the spark plug from the cylinder with a defective part and if changing all seals remove all spark plugs. Rotate the crankshaft and bring the piston of the concerned cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke with cylinder number one in the firing order. Tape an adapter into the spark plug hole and run an air hose from an air compressor. If there is not compressed air available, place the piston just before TDC and insert a long nylon line through the spark plug bolt up to the point where it fills the chamber and suspends outside for easy removal. To stop parts from dropping into the engine use shop rags after that compress the valve spring with the help of the valve spring compressor and then remove the keepers. If air pressure does not keep the valve shut tight, the valve face or seat is likely to be worn and then can only be further adjusted by removing the cylinder head. Twist a rubber band or small piece of tape over the top of the valve stem do not allow it to fall into the combustion chamber and deflate the tire. Check the condition of the valve stem and the ability of the valve to move along the guide without any kind of rubbing. Blast air pressure to keep the valve closed, grease the vale stem and replace the guide seal. Insert the spring around the valve and the valve spring retainer or rotator for the compressing of the valve spring and proper placing of the keepers and they are held in place by some greasing. Take off the stress from the spring tool, detach the air hose and finally take off the adaptor from the hole of the spark plug. Lastly, place the rocker arm(s) as well as the pushrod(s), spark plug(s), and the rocker arm cover(s); then the engine should be started to check for any leakage of oil as well as any unusual sounds.
