    What is the purpose of the Idle Control Valve on the Ford Bronco II? Posted by Customer

    The Idle Control Valve is responsible for controlling engine idle speed and has some dashpot functions as well. It is placed in the throttle body to enable free passage of air bypassing the throttle plate which will maintain desired idle speed. To test for the valve, switch off the ignition and unplug the wiring harness. Use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between terminals. If it does not show 7-13 ohms, replace it with a new one. Take off the battery after disconnecting the wiring harness. Unscrew the mounting screws, remove the old gasket, and clean up mounting surface. Screw in tightly while using a fresh gasket again. Reconnect your wiring and re-connect your battery after that.
