Loosen the wheel lug nuts. Raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Remove the wheels. On 1988 through 1991 models, disconnect the stabilizer bar from the link. Remove the shock absorber. Disconnect the center link from the Pitman arm. Use a suitable spring compressor, to relieve tension on the spring. Compress the spring. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the inner end of the lower control arm to the frame. Slowly lower the control arm. Remove the spring and compressor as a unit. Note the installation of the upper insulator between the upper end of the spring and the frame. If the spring is to be replaced, slowly loosen the spring compressor tool until all tension is removed, then remove the tool.

Snap the right parking brake cable into the upper suspension arm retainer. Install the rear stabilizer bar. Connect the height sensor connector link to the upper control arm.

Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands placed under the frame, and remove the wheel while blocking the front wheels. Remove the rear stabilizer bar if equipped, support the rear axle assembly with a jackstand placed under the axle tube, and position a safety chain through one of the spring coils and around a convenient frame member. Use a floor jack under the lower suspension arm axle pivot bolt, remove the nut and bolt, and slowly lower the jack until the spring is fully extended. Remove the safety chain, coil spring, and insulators from between the suspension arm and the spring upper seat.
