Mercury 7W7Z-18124-A Shock Absorber Assembly

Check the shock absorbers to ensure they are securely mounted and undamaged. Inspect the upper mounts for damage and wear. If damage or wear is observed, replace the shock absorbers as a set (front or rear).

Compress the shock absorber to clear the hole in the frame, and then remove the inner insulator and washer from the upper retaining stud. Some models may have shocks with a plastic dust tube, which can be loosened using a wrench. Remove the lower retaining nut and the lower shock absorber mounting stud from the mounting bracket to complete the removal process.

For 2003 and later models, remove the three shock absorber upper mounting nuts, the brake caliper, and the brake disc. Additionally, remove the upper and lower stabilizer bar links. Remove the upper balljoint nut and separate the control arm from the steering knuckle. Finally, remove the lower mounting bolt and the shock absorber/coil spring assembly from the front end of the vehicle.
