Put the pan in place against the transmission and install the bolts. When tightening each bolt, work around the pan, tightening a little at a time until the final torque figure is reached. Avoid overtightening the bolts.

With the drain pan in place, begin by removing the front and side transmission pan mounting bolts. For E40D transmission-equipped vehicles, you may need to disconnect the digital range sensor connector. Loosen the rear pan bolts approximately four turns. Carefully use a screwdriver to pry the transmission pan loose, allowing the fluid to drain. Ensure you don't damage the pan or transmission gasket surfaces, as this could lead to leaks. Finally, remove the remaining bolts, the pan, and the gasket.

To remove the old filter, simply detach it from the transmission. If the filter seal did not come out with the filter, it should be removed from the transmission carefully without gouging the seal bore in any way.

Check under the vehicle for leaks during the first few trips.
