Insert a large screwdriver or prybar into the space between the transmission and the crossmember and try to pry the transmission up. If the transmission is easily moved up and down, closely examine the rubber insulator part of the mount for any tears or cracks, indicating it must be replaced.

Attach lifting eyes at the right-front and left-rear of the engine and support it with a crane or a lifting device.

Engine mounts should be replaced immediately if they are broken or deteriorated, as failing to do so may cause damage or wear to the driveline components.

Insert a large screwdriver or pry bar into the space between the transmission and the crossmember and try to pry the transmission up slightly. You can also insert a pry bar or large screwdriver and try to lever the transmission up and down. If the transmission is easily moved, look closely at the rubber insulator part of the mount; it's probably torn or cracked and must be replaced. The transmission should not move away from the insulator much. If there is any separation of the rubber, the mount is worn out.

Check the mounts for any cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the metal plates. Sometimes the rubber will split right down the center. Additionally, rubber preservative should be applied to the mounts to slow deterioration.
