    Q:
How do you inspect the disc brakes for the 2011 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
If it hasn't already been done, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the front wheels. The disc brake calipers, which contain the pads, are now visible. Each caliper has an outer and an inner pad - all pads should be checked.Note the pad thickness by looking through the inspection hole in the caliper. If the lining material is 1/8-inch thick or less, or if it is tapered from end-to-end, the pads should be replaced.Check the condition of the brake disc. Look for score marks, deep scratches, and overheated areas (they will appear blue or discolored). If damage or wear is noted, the disc can be removed and resurfaced by an automotive machine shop or replaced with a new one.Remove the calipers without disconnecting the brake hoses. Lubricate the caliper slide rails and the inner pad slots on the steering knuckles with special caliper slide grease.
