- A:To remove the shock absorber, start by raising the rear of the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands. Block the front wheels for added safety. Next, place a floor jack under the axle near the shock absorber being removed and raise it slightly to relieve the load on the shock absorber. Then, remove the nut and bolt that secure the lower end of the shock absorber to the rear axle. After that, remove the nut and bolt that secure the top of the shock absorber to the upper mounting bracket on the frame.
