    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install the Wheel Bearing and Wheel seal on Ford Excursion? Posted by Customer
    A:
To have access to the axleshafts, lift the car to a certain point where it is able to rest on the jack stands then you proceed to dismantle the rear wheels. To get to the Dana axle, first, you have to delete the disc brake caliper, then, to engage the four slots in the hub nut, you have to use a special hub wrench and, finally, to delete the nut. Then remove the outer bearing from the hub and retrieving the hub along with the brake disc in a linear fashion from the spindle. Remove the bolts located at the inside of the disc, you will need to pry off the seal which is located in the back of the wheel hub and pull off the inner bearing. For the ayxe of Ford 10.50-inch, do the same as the above standard: removing the disc brake caliper, install the hub wrench and removing the nut, seemed recall the left side of the nut is left thread. Loosen and remove the rear hub with the help of a step plate and a 3-jaw puller without dropping the outer hub bearing. Submerge the hub nut and bearings in solvent and rinse them so that it evaporates and similarly clean the interior of the wheel hub then check the bearing assemblies for signs of wear or damage and replace if need be. This is if the bearing races are to be replaced; punch them out using a brass drift and fit new races using a fitting tool. Previous to installing the inner and outer wheel bearings apply high-temperature grease and then commence by installing the inner wheel bearing along with a new hub inner seal. Grease the inner seal lip as well as the spindle; fill the hub with one ounce of differential lubricant; slip the hub and the disc over the spindle. Fit the outer wheel bearing and the hub nut with the tab of the nut in the keyway of the hub, and until the nut reaches the specified torque while rotating the hub. Screw down the locknut as required, for no end play and for a maximum of 20 in-lbs of torque to rotate the hub. Perform the following actions within the reinstall process; reverse all the steps stated under the removal process, and ensure that you over-tighten all the bolts and nuts that were loosened during the removal process, and check the axle lubricant level.

    Q:
How to replace front Wheel Bearing and Wheel Seal on 4WD Ford F-250? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before disassembling your vehicle, purchase or rent the tool necessary to remove the locknut and adjusting nut from the spindle, and obtain the parts needed to replace the inner bearing seal, which should always be replaced when the entire front hub assembly is dismantled. If the required specifications for the locknut and adjusting nut are unavailable, it is advisable to have this operation performed by a dealer service department or a shop specializing in this type of work. Begin by raising the front of the vehicle and securely placing it on jackstands, then remove the wheel(s) and brake caliper(s). For all axles except model 44 with manual hub locks, remove the wheel bearing locknut, lock ring, and adjusting nut using the special lockwrench tool. For model 44 axles with manual hub locks, remove the adjusting nut with a special locknut tool by applying inward pressure on the wrench to disengage the self-locking mechanism, continuing to apply pressure as the nut is loosened and removed. Pull the hub and disc assembly off the spindle, allowing the outer wheel-bearing assembly to slide out. Remove the inner bearing and grease seal from the hub using an appropriate puller and slide hammer. Clean all old grease from the bearings using solvent and inspect for pits, cracks, snarks, and flat spots, replacing any that show excessive wear. Clean the bearing outer races within the hub and inspect them for the same criteria; if replacement is necessary, drive out the bearing races from the wheel hub with a brass drift and install new races with a bearing driver, ensuring they are driven in squarely and seated correctly to avoid damage. Lubricate the bearings with high-temperature wheel bearing grease, working as much lubricant as possible between the rollers and cages if a bearing packer is not available. Clean all old grease from the hub, position the inner bearing in the inner cup, and install a new grease seal using an appropriate seal driver. Carefully position the hub and disc assembly on the spindle, then install the outer bearing and the adjusting nut. Adjust the wheel bearing, install the locking hubs, and then install the caliper(s) and wheel(s). Finally, lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.

    Q:
How to replace semi-floating ball bearing type rear Wheel Bearing and Wheel Seal on Ford F-250? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the axleshaft. Use a special slide hammer type puller to take out the axleshaft seal; if only seal replacement is needed, proceed to the next step. If both the bearing and seal need removal, they can be taken out simultaneously using a slide hammer in conjunction with a bearing removal tool. Pivot the jaws of the tool sideways and insert them behind the bearing, allowing the jaws to engage the bearing for removal. Inspect the inner surface of the housing for any issues that could hinder the new seal or bearing from fitting properly, addressing any problems such as burrs, galling, or rust before installing the new components. If replaced, lubricate the new bearing with rear axle lube and install it squarely into the axle housing bore, using a bearing/seal driver to tap it in until it bottoms out, ensuring it is pressed in squarely. Before installing the seal, apply a small amount of RTV sealant on the outer edge (avoiding the sealing lip) and coat the inner sealing lip with multi-purpose grease. Use an appropriate seal driver to tap the new seal into its bore, ensuring even pressure around its circumference until it is fully seated. Finally, install the axleshaft(s).
