The driveshaft is a tube running between the transfer case or transmission and the rear axle or front axle. Universal joints are located at either end of the driveshaft(s) and permit power to be transmitted to the rear (and, on 4WD models, the front) wheels at varying angles. On long wheelbase models, the driveshaft is actually two shafts connected by a universal joint and supported in the middle by a bearing attached to the frame.

A press or large vise will be required. It may be a good idea to take the driveshaft to a repair or machine shop where the universal joints can be replaced for you, normally at a reasonable charge.
