Begin by turning the front wheels to the straight ahead position and locking the steering column, then disconnect the negative battery cable and disable the airbag system. Pry up the front end of the door sill plates with a trim tool and remove the right and left side cowl trim panels. Detach the bolt securing the steering shaft, noting that moving the front seats back or removing the driver's seat will provide more working room. Remove the center console and the instrument cluster. In the instrument cluster opening, remove the fastener securing the cowl top bracket. Under the driver's side of the instrument panel, disconnect the large electrical bulkhead connector and tag and disconnect all other electrical connectors, being cautious of ground straps. On the passenger's side, disconnect the antenna connector and any remaining electrical connectors. Remove the instrument panel end caps and the retaining fasteners, ensuring to remove additional bolts in front of the center support bracket and those securing the sides of the instrument panel. Detach any electrical connectors that may interfere with removal, then pull the instrument panel towards the rear of the vehicle to remove it. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
