In order to reach the heater assembly of the 1981 and later Town car drivers need to pull back the entire instrument panel or remove it completely which takes both proper tools and sufficient skills and time to complete this work. The replacement of an evaporator core requires the substitution of both the accumulator/drier unit. Platform air conditioning discharge should begin at a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility. To avoid contamination pull off the negative battery cable followed by the accumulator/drier suction line and evaporator core liquid line while sealing the opening with caps. Remove the cooling system liquids while separating the heater hoses from both the inlet and outlet tubes of the heater core. Detach the electrical wires of the blower motor and pressure switch before placing the wiring harnesses along with any interfering hoses safely out of the desired location. The right hood seal from the engine compartment needs to be taken out if the procedure requires it. Move to the passenger compartment where you should fold down the right side carpeting and detach the left bottom screw from the recirculation air duct supports. Under the hood start by taking out nuts and screws which surround the evaporator case before pulling the case away from the firewall studs to reach its location above the wheel well splash panel by possibly adjusting the splash panel for clearance. Open the evaporator case to dash panel and remove the insulator situated at the housing base while using tools to disconnect the two housing case halves. Finish the installation by taking out the evaporator core together with the accumulator/drier unit from the housing and separate these components. The installation process should start with the reverse of removal steps while using new O-ring seals with lubricated refrigerant oil for the O-ring and the system needs dealer service department or air conditioning repair facility evacuation and recharging before leak testing.
