To replace the fuel filter for diesel engines, you should unscrew the filter housing cover, remove the filter and O-ring, and clean the housing. Coat the O-ring with clean diesel fuel before installing it onto the filter element. Place the new filter in position, seat the O-ring, install the cover, and tighten it appropriately. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

Disconnect the fuel supply line and the fuel return line from the fuel filter/water separator housing (Location of the fuel return line and the fuel supply line on the fuel filter/Water separator - 7.3L engine).
