    Q:
How to remove and replace A/C Condenser on Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
Since 2001, you must always replace the accumulator/drier and orifice tube each time you change the condenser. Start by-emptying all air from the air conditioning system before proceeding. First, disconnect the power, drain the coolant, then take out the air filter. The radiator can be loosened from its holder so you can push it sideways. Use tools to carefully disconnect the refrigerant lines from the condenser that use bolted flanges. Taking the nuts off the bottom condenser studs is how you detach it from its posts. Tilt the condenser out of the car, then cap the lines to keep dust and water from getting in. When you bring back the original condenser, put its connection elements at the top to keep oil from leaking. Before you put in a new condenser, drop in 1 ounce of refrigerant oil first. Follow our installation directions, putting together the components backward of how you took them apart, making sure all the rubber pads below the condenser are in place and the seals around it are intact. Finish the process by letting an authorized shop empty, refill, and check for leaks the system after discharging it.

    Q:
How to remove and reinstall the A/C Condenser on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Have the air conditioning system discharged. On all 4.0L engines, remove the air cleaner duct. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the condenser. On some models, this requires a spring lock coupling tool similar to that used for fuel injection lines. Remove the mounting fasteners for the radiator and tilt it back for clearance to remove the condenser. Be careful not to damage the radiator with the cooling fan when tilting or moving the radiator back. Radiator removal is recommended if clearance to remove the condenser cannot be achieved without damage to either component. Remove the top seal by removing the push-pin fasteners. Remove the mounting fasteners for the condenser. Lift the condenser out of the vehicle and plug the lines to keep dirt and moisture out. If the original condenser will be reinstalled, store it with the line fittings on top to prevent oil from draining out. If a new condenser is being installed, pour one ounce of refrigerant oil into it prior to installation. Use PAG oil for R-134a systems and mineral refrigerant oil for R-12 systems. Reinstall the components in the reverse order of removal. Be sure the rubber pads are in place under the condenser (if equipped). Be sure the seals are in place around the condenser (if equipped). Have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.

    Q:
What initial actions are recommended before replacing the A/C Condenser, and why are these steps important for the 2000 Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the battery. Drain the cooling system. On 2001 and later models, remove the air cleaner assembly. On models through 2000, remove the radiator. On later models, the radiator can be unbolted and leaned back from the radiator support to allow condenser removal.
