If replacement is indicated, it is recommended to replace the calipers rather than overhauling them. New and factory rebuilt units are available on an exchange basis, making the job easy. Always replace the calipers in pairs, never just one. To remove the caliper, loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the wheels and then the inlet fitting bolt to disconnect the brake hose from the caliper. Plug the brake hose to prevent contaminants from entering the system and minimize brake fluid loss. If the caliper is being removed for access to another component, securely hang it out of the way using a wire. To install the caliper, reverse the removal procedure. Bleed the brake circuit and check for any leaks from the hose connections. Test the brakes carefully before returning the vehicle to normal service.
