Use a pair of vise grips to unscrew the door latch striker stud, and installation is the reverse of removal. The striker stud can be adjusted vertically, laterally, and fore-and-aft, but it must not be used to compensate for door misalignment. The door latch striker can also be shimmed to achieve the correct clearance between the latch and striker. To check the clearance, clean the latch jams and striker area, then apply a thin layer of dark grease to the striker. Close and open the door while noting the pattern of the grease. Move the striker assembly laterally to ensure a flush fit at the door and pillar or quarter panel, and tighten the striker stud after making the necessary adjustments.
