Mercury Lynx Crankshaft Seal

The front crankcase of the Mercury Lynx Crankshaft Seal contains engine oil, allowing the small four-cylinder engine to stay lubricated while running without spilling all over the ground. This Crankshaft Seal is made of metal and rubber. The metal core is thoroughly wrapped by the rubber. Its inner lip grips the rotating crankshaft. The outer lip contacts the engine block. Thus, it prevents any oil leaks under heat, pressure, and vibration. The round front Crankshaft Seal offered on every trim during the production years meant that drivers did not have to worry about confusing style changes. However, the rubber composition continued to update for better flexibility and longevity. When the miles keep piling on, the seal can harden and shrink. Once this happens, oil can start to smear around the area of the pulley. You may also see a dipstick level that has fallen low, or you may catch a whiff of burning smoke from oil that is seeping out and burning away on hot parts. This is usually a good reminder to get a fresh Crankshaft Seal installed. A Mercury Lynx has a crank pulley, and if you see a dark, oily ring around it when you open the hood, then make sure you check it out quickly. Neglecting those warnings that result in the occurrence of excessive premature bearing wear would cause expensive repairs. Mercury owners benefit by noticing seepage early and installing a new Crankshaft Seal before their lively Lynx loses vital lubrication.

  • Q: How to replace front Crankshaft Seal on Mercury Lynx?
    A:
The Timing Belt needs to be removed, the crankshaft sprocket should be pulled off, though a two jaw puller might be necessary if it is on very tight. After that, remove the dished washer from the crankshaft but the best side of it should be placed against the oil seal. With a suitable hooked tool, prise out the oil seal from the oil pump housing. Coat the lips of the new seal in oil and then fit it in place around the pulley bolt the large washer and a piece of pipe as space washer. Next, set the dished washer in such a manner that the concave side is in contact with the oil seal, then the belt sprocket is placed over the crankshaft and followed by the pulley. Last, but not the least, set the car timing belt as hitherto elucidated should do the trick.
