Mercury Bobcat Washer Reservoir

The Mercury Bobcat Washer Reservoir holds the cleaning fluid that lets the windshield washer system spray the glass so drivers keep clear vision in any weather. Constructed of tough plastic, the Washer Reservoir lives under the hood of a Mercury. Depending on the Bobcat year, it will be behind the engine block or mounted near the headlights, providing the pump with a short, direct run to the spray nozzles. Fluid flows from the Washer Reservoir via thin hoses to a small electric pump which throws the fluid onto the windshield and wiper blades and immediately clears it away. Over time, the plastic in a Mercury unit can become brittle as a result of fluid running low. This can cause cracks which leak and leave the system dry. The early Bobcat versions and later Bobcat updates share the same basic hard-plastic Washer Reservoir. The difference seems to rest mostly in the mounting points and exact placement rather than function and is also utilized in the line. If the Washer Reservoir is full and intact, it ensures the Mercury wipers and washers will respond instantly.

Mercury Bobcat Washer Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the Washer Pump and Washer Reservoir on Mercury Bobcat?
    A:
Remove the wiring connector plug and washer hose, then undo and remove the retaining screws to lift the washer and motor assembly away from the left-hand side fender apron. To take out the pump motor from the reservoir, pry out the retaining ring and carefully pull the motor out of the reservoir recess. The motor and pump assembly cannot be repaired, so if faulty, it must be replaced with a new unit. When refitting the motor into the reservoir, ensure the projection on the motor body is aligned with the slot in the reservoir. Finally, press on the motor retaining ring and refit the reservoir assembly to the car using the reverse procedure of removal.
