Lincoln Town Car Speedometer Cable

Lincoln Town Car Speedometer Cable lets the driver see real-time road speed by carrying rotation from the transmission directly to the dashboard gauge. In early Lincoln models, this flexible wire housed in a curved casing spins with the gearbox gears, its square ends engaging the factory Lincoln gauge and gearbox sockets, and lubrication keeps the inner core turning smoothly. Later Lincoln Town Car editions switched to electronic sensors, removing the need for a Speedometer Cable, yet classic Town Car owners still rely on the original mechanical setup. Two arrangements exist, a single Speedometer Cable that links gearbox to gauge, and the dual style found on Town Car trims equipped with cruise control, where an upper Speedometer Cable feeds the instrument while a lower line connects to the cruise system, the two lengths not interchangeable. Common troubles include rounded cable ends, loose fittings, kinks, or crushed casings, any of which halt the gauge needle, so an intact Speedometer Cable remains vital for accurate speed display.

We provide a wide range of Lincoln Town Car Speedometer Cable at the optimal prices. If you need Lincoln Town Car Speedometer Cable, you can shop with confidence on our website. All our OEM parts come with a manufacturer's warranty and are delivered to your doorstep with a fast delivery service.

Lincoln Town Car Speedometer Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a speedometer cable on Lincoln Town Car?
    A:
On later models, the speedometer is electric, with a signal provided by the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). On these models there is no mechanical speedometer cable. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission or cruise control speed sensor adapter. Models with cruise control adapters have two speedometer cables: one between the transmission and the adapter and one leading from the adapter to the speedometer housing. Detach the cable from the routing clips in the engine compartment and pull the cable up to provide enough slack to allow disconnection from the speedometer. Remove the Instrument Cluster screws, pull the cluster out, then reach behind it and disconnect the speedometer cable from the back of the cluster by pressing on the cable release clip. Remove the cable from the vehicle. Prior to installation, press a 3/16-inch ball of silicone or equivalent lubricant Into the speedometer opening. Installation is the reverse of removal.
