The procedure is much easier to perform if the fuel tank is empty. Begin by removing the fuel tank filler cap to relieve pressure. Next, relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. For AWD models, remove the driveshaft. Proceed to remove the rear portion of the exhaust system. Disconnect the EVAP and fuel supply line quick-connect fittings, and unplug the fuel tank harness electrical connector. Loosen the hose clamp to disconnect the fuel filler neck hose and the fresh air hose vent cap. Support the fuel tank securely, then remove the fuel tank retaining strap bolts, take off the straps, and carefully lower the fuel tank, ensuring that for AWD models, the tank is moved forward as it is lowered to clear the rear differential. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the fuel tank strap bolts are tightened securely. Finally, reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal, start the engine, and check for fuel leaks.
