The seat belts should be checked for any signs of puncture, abrasion or tearing as well as the buckles, latch plates, and the guide loops. Make sure that the 'Seat belt reminder' light comes on when the ignition key is placed in the 'Run' or 'Start' position. The retractor mechanism allows the belt to remain locked during a heavy braking or impact and remains loose during normal driving; ensure that the retractors pull the belt back and rest it on your chest while driving and rewind the belt all the way back when the buckle is open. In the event that the checks indicate problems with the seat belt system, replace the components as may be relevant.
