How do you remove and install the inner door handle and latch assembly on 2000-2011 Ford Ranger?

The interior door handle is held in place with a single rivet that cannot be turned, simply unscrewed, but must instead be drilled out for removal, and a rivet gun is needed in order to replace the small rivet with which the handle is replaced, and to assist in repositioning of the handle. The handle incorporates a cable that operates the door lock and requires cable disconnected for the handle to be removed. First, you have to provide access to the inner door handle assembly by disconnecting the door trim panel along with the watershield if it is an older model, then remove the fastener which holds the inner door handle assembly to the door. Pull the handle link off the handle and the lock cylinder. To get to the door latch, one needs to release the fastener, and slide the additional run channel for the window glass out of the way. Pull the rods out or strip the electrical connection from the latch; undo the latch screws and take the latch away. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, with additional steps: when a new latch is to be fitted put the rod retaining clips in place; fix the control rod and lock cylinder rod to the latch before fitting and then tighten the latch screws properly; and lastly check the efficiency of the handle and lock before replacing the watershield and the door panel.
