    Q:
How to remove and replace the door handles, door lock cylinder, and door latch assembly on the Ford Escape? Posted by Customer
    A:
Exercise caution and wear gloves when removing and replacing door handles and latch assemblies. For 2007 and earlier models, raise the window, remove the door trim panel and watershield. Inside the door, remove the latch assembly screw and handle cover. Slide the handle towards the rear, remove insulators, and release the clip to move the interior handle aside. Then, remove latch screws and disconnect the electrical connector. Slide the latch assembly towards the front, remove the anti-theft guard, and disconnect the exterior handle rod. Installation is the reverse. For rear handles and latch assembly, remove the electrical connector, glass top run bolts, and separate the run from the door. Remove handle screws, cover, and slide the handle towards the rear. Inside, remove the screw and loosen the control assembly. Disconnect the actuating rod, remove latch screws, and remove the rear latch. Release the conduit and disconnect the interior handle cable. Remove the handle assembly by prying the clips and separating it from the door. Installation is the reverse. For 2008 and later models, the process differs slightly with additional steps, but caution and attention to detail remain essential.

    Q:
How often should the Door Hinge, Door Latch Assembly, Door Lock, Hood Hinge, Hood Latch and Trunk Latch be lubricated on Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer
    A:
Depending on the mileage, every 3000 miles or each 3 months later, several drops of light oil or lock lubricant should be applied to the hinges and latches of the doors and of the hood and the trunk. Also, the door latch strikers must be greased with a thin layer of grease to reduce their use, and thus, the amount of wear they experience. For the locks on the door and the trunk, one ought to use the spray on graphite lubricant to lubricate the locks.

    A:
For the remedy of the door latch, raise and remove the door trim panel along with the watershield and the window together. Pull the latch to align it with the large access hole, and while doing this exercise release the electrical connectors as may be necessary followed by the outer door handle and the rod that interconnects the outer lock cylinder with the latch and finally pull out the latch assembly from the door. For the outside handle and door lock cylinder assembly, first, raise the window and pull the door trim panel as well as the watershield. Remove the actuating rods for the door handle and the lock cylinder through the access hole and the mounting fasteners for the door handle. Remove any electrical connectors which might hamper the process and unscrew the rest to detach the door handle/lock cylinder and door including the removal of the rubber inserts to get to the rest of the fasteners. Q:
How to remove and install the inner door handle and door latch assembly on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
The interior door handle is held in place with a single rivet that cannot be turned, simply unscrewed, but must instead be drilled out for removal, and a rivet gun is needed in order to replace the small rivet with which the handle is replaced, and to assist in repositioning of the handle. The handle incorporates a cable that operates the door lock and requires cable disconnected for the handle to be removed. First, you have to provide access to the inner door handle assembly by disconnecting the door trim panel along with the watershield if it is an older model, then remove the fastener which holds the inner door handle assembly to the door. Pull the handle link off the handle and the lock cylinder. To get to the door latch, one needs to release the fastener, and slide the additional run channel for the window glass out of the way. Pull the rods out or strip the electrical connection from the latch; undo the latch screws and take the latch away. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, with additional steps: when a new latch is to be fitted put the rod retaining clips in place; fix the control rod and lock cylinder rod to the latch before fitting and then tighten the latch screws properly; and lastly check the efficiency of the handle and lock before replacing the watershield and the door panel.

How to remove and install a Door Handle, Door Latch Assembly and Door Lock Cylinder on the Ford Mustang? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the door latch, the window must be raised and the door trim panel, as well as the watershield, must be taken off. Subsequently, unplug the door handle actuator rod along with the electrical connections of the latch and thereafter, undo the screws that fasten the latch onto the door. After that the manual lock and door lock cylinder actuating rods are to be removed from the latch and then the actuating cable for the inside door handle can be disconnected thus enabling the latch assembly to be removed from the door. For the door lock cylinder, raise the window and take out the door trim panel and watershield after that to get to the large hole in order to release the plastic clip holding the lock cylinder to the latch rod. There is a lock cylinder mounting bolt that can be accessed and then pulling out the lock cylinder from the door. To remove the outside handle, one has to get to the hole for releasing the plastic clip that locks the outside handle-to-latch rod and after that the retaining nuts of the outside handles have to be unscrewed and the handle removed from the door. Just as the removal process, installation is done in an order that is reversed.

To address the door latch, first raise the window and remove the door trim panel along with the watershield.
