To remove the steering wheel, first disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the airbag module. Centralize the steering wheel with the front wheels in the straight-ahead position, remove the keys, and lock the steering. Disconnect the speed cruise control electrical connector if equipped. Unscrew the retaining bolt from the center of the steering wheel, marking its position on the steering column shaft for reinstallation while holding the steering wheel. Remove the steering wheel from the column, ensuring the wiring connector stays in place; if necessary for 2008 and later models, use a two-claw steering wheel puller at the marked points. For installation, ensure the front wheels are still straight, align the marks made during removal, and install the retaining bolt, tightening it to the specified torque without engaging the steering lock. Reconnect the wiring connectors for the horn and airbag, secure the airbag module with screws, and finally reconnect the negative battery cable.
