A needle roller bearing is used as a clutch pilot bearing on all vehicles, except for the 2.3 L models in which this bearing must be placed directly into the crankshaft with the seal end facing the transmission, and on others bearings must be installed in the correct position. First of all, first remove the transmission, clutch, pressure plate, and disc. The bearing can be pulled out with the help of a slide hammer or with particular Ford instruments which are equipped with puller. For installation of the new bearing, apply a small amount of lithium grease on the crankshaft opening so that it does not transfer to an extent that causes slippage of the clutch. The bearing is then installed in its relevant place and lightly hammered on, using a 1 inch, 12 point socket, and an extension bar, to the crankshaft so as not to compromise on it since it will lead to a quick failure of the crankshaft. And are all over, reinstall the clutch, pressure plate and transmission.
