To switch the ignition, you should first unscrew the cable with negative connection from the battery. On existing cars, take out the bolts that hold the steering column support bracket, drop down the steering column and then you remove the nuts that fix the ignition switch to the steering column. Raise the switch assembly, disconnect a coupling electrical connector, and release the locking mechanism of the actuator rod, then take off the switch. During installation, the initial position of both Ignition Lock Cylinder and the ignition switch should lock, then insert a 5/64-inch drill bit in the locking pin and fix the actuator rod on the switch. Locate the switch on the steering column, fasten the nuts to be tightened only at first then center the position of the switch to reach mid rod lash condition. Following insertion of the lock pin, carry out the installation process in the order they were described and inspect the organization of a button of the ignition switch. For later models, insert the ignition key into the RUN position, and then loosen the ignition switch retain-fixing screws using a special TORX bit and then pull out the switch. To replace, position the switch pin in the slot on the lock/column assembly, the switch and key must be in the run position, then insert the switch and tighten the screws in the reverse of the above process. To inspect the Ignition Lock Cylinder, turn the key over all the switch positions to determine if there is any stickage or bind on any of the positions, if this is the case then take apart the Ignition Lock Cylinder to check for burr or bound and replace if there is any. For replacement, remove the negative battery terminal, uninstall the steering wheel on early models, or the steering column trim shrouds on the later models, turn the lock key to 'Run' position, and push in a drill bit or a flat head screwdriver to hold the retaining pin whilst pulling out the lock cylinder. Before installing the new Ignition Lock Cylinder, rotate it with the key to the Run position, check if it is properly seated and aligned with the pull start handle before rotating it with the key to the Off position and check correctness of its functioning in all mentioned positions before the final installation is done the other way round.
