How to remove and install a transfer case on Ford F-150?

Remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and then safely lift the car to come on the jackstands. Disconnect the transfer case skid plate bolts and the skid plate, and then drain the transfer case lubricant. Then, step by step, the front driveshaft shield must be unbolted and the front and rear driveshafts, also the transfer case vent tube need to be disconnected. For manual shift models, it is necessary to remove the shift lever and the shift linkage from the shift bracket, cables or connectors and the wiring harness. In electric shift models, then remove electrical connection of the electric shift motor, also remove the connection of the transmission speed sensor. Place support under the transfer case using a jack, preferably a special one appropriate for this type of work, secure the jack with safety chains or tiedowns. Withdraw the transfer case-to-transmission bolts, after removing all wires and hoses connecting them for movement of the transfer case and jack backward until the transfer case is beyond the reach of the transmission while being on the same level. Thus when the input shaft is free, lowered the transfer Case and take it out from under the vehicle. The reverse of removal is installation where new bolts are used and transfer case-to-transmission bolts tightened gradually and evenly to the specified torque; transfer case needs to be refilled with the right lubricant.
