As for quick disconnect fittings of the power steering system, for the removal of the pressure line of the power steering pump and the return hose, they differ depending on engine type, 4.0L pushrod V6, 4.0L SOHC V6, and 5.0L VB. In SOHC V6 engines for instance, one has to actually take off the power steering fluid reservoir in order to take off the belt guard. This pulley maybe prybar out to remove for SOHC V6 models while for the 4.0L pushrod V6 models a pulley removal tool is required. First you remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then the drivebelt, and if necessary the engine cooling fan. Remove the power steering fluid after removing the return hose and the pressure hose on the pump. For SOHC V6 models, take off the fluid container and belt cover and for the two v6 model the drive belt pulley can conveniently be unbolted or through a pulley removal tool in the pump. If required, unbolt the mounting bracket and the bolts holding the pump in place, and while doing so it should be pointed out that on the 5.0L VB's the pulley does not have to be removed. For installing, simply screw the pump into the bracket until the bolts reach the torque value; pulley on VB models should be fitted using the supplied mandrel. Last but not the least, install the pressure as well as return hoses to the pump, follow the same sequence to dismantle undo all connected hoses, reservoir assembly fill the pump reservoir with the outlined fluid and finally eliminate unnecessary air in the system.
