Ford Explorer Sport Trac Fuel Rail

The Fuel Rail for Ford Explorer Sport Trac is the pressurized pipe that supplies the fuel injectors within your engine, ensuring a quick and clean burn. Mounted on the intake side of the engine, the Fuel Rail receives gasoline from an electric pump. The onboard regulator holds pressure in order for the powertrain computer to vary the injector pulse width for idle, cruising, or heavy load. The original versions of the Explorer Sport Trac employed the Fuel Rail arrangement, which was then standard for most domestic vehicles of the time. This involves using port injection, where each injector is located just ahead of one of the intake valves. With technological advancement, later editions of the Explorer Sport Trac got higher pressure common rail style Fuel Rail hardware (similar to direct injection). The larger and finer droplets allowed for complete burn without the need to redesign the engine. According to the Ford redesigns, the Explorer Sport Trac platform utilized the Fuel Rail crafted from corrosion resistant steel or aluminum. This Ford component exerts the right amount of pressure to support stringent emission standards, which helps to deliver strong performance.

Ford Explorer Sport Trac Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a fuel injector and fuel rail assembly on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
    A:
Begin by relieving the fuel pressure and disconnecting the battery cable to remove the fuel rail assembly. Then, remove the upper Intake Manifold from the lower intake manifold. Disconnect the fuel feed and return lines from the fuel rail assembly. The fuel injector connectors should be disconnected and so should the fuel rail retaining bolts/studs. Thereafter, lift together the fuel rail and injectors from the lower intake manifold. Rock it side-to-side and remove it from the fuel rail if you want to remove a fuel injector. Replace O-rings and plastic "hats" as necessary. When installing new O-rings, make sure that injector caps are clean and lubricate them before threading into lower intake manifold. Placing the fuel rail over injectors ensuring injectors stay in place using retaining bolts/studs. Perform remaining steps in reverse for re-installation.
