How to remove and replace the evaporator core and A/C Expansion Valve in Ford Explorer Sport Trac?

Starting with 2001 and newer cars, you must replace the whole housing and core together as one unit. You need to empty the system and take all the refrigerant back. Note that suction accumulators are different in these newer models because they don't include expansion valves, so take special care when removing them. Press plastic clamps onto both heater hoses to stop their flow, then take them off their connections at the firewall. Remove and tag the electrical wires connected to the blower motor and blower motor resistor. Then sever the stretchable vacuum lines from their source. Twist off the tube-at-condenser end with a tool made to unlock spring-wired line connections. Take off the nut from the bottom of the housing and the top two bolts, turn the housing a few clicks counterclockwise, move it forward slightly, and remove it. To install the parts, you put in new connection rubbers with oil that works with 134A refrigerant.
