How do you remove and install the headlight switch on Ford Explorer?

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, and the positive cable if equipped with airbags. Remove the switches for the heated rear window and rear windshield washer. For models from 1991 to 1994, pull the headlight switch knob out as far as it will go, then reach up along the side of the switch nearest the driver's door to push the knob release button. While holding the button down, pull the knob and shaft out of the switch. Unscrew the switch retaining nut with your fingers, being cautious as the nut is plastic, and then remove the two screws that secure the bottom end of the switch bracket. Pull the bracket and switch out of the instrument panel, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the switch by lifting the tangs and unplugging the connector. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the switch tab aligns with the notch in the instrument panel. For models from 1995 and later, pull off the headlight switch knob, remove the instrument cluster trim panel, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the two screws, and take out the switch, which is mounted behind the instrument cluster trim panel. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
