First of all, you need to set your engine on the heavy-duty engineering stand and turn it in such a manner that the oil pan be located upwards. After that, the bolts of the oil pan must be unscrewed. For 7.3L engines, place it in a vise and cut the oil pan sealant and carefully pull the pan off the block. Two bolts on the front end of and the nut on the pick-up tube bracket are to be first removed so that the pick-up tube can be taken out while discarding the old gasket or O-ring. For installation clean the oil pan flange and the engine block of all the previous sealant and gasket material on the oil pump pick-up tube flange. For the 6.0L engines, there is a changing of a gasket. On the oil pump pick-up tube, fit a new gasket or an O-ring and at that torque the bolt to the required esteem. On 7.3L engines, it is necessary to apply RTV sealant on left and right flanges of the oil pan to a thickness of 1/8 inch and on the front and rear flanges to a thickness of 1/4 inch; the pan should be installed within three minutes of sealing. Place the pan coplanar with the mated surface of the block with the oil pan bolts, tighten this gradually and uniformly until the fastening is just tight, then to the torque stated. Finally, install the engine.
