Ford Crown Victoria Antenna

The Ford Crown Victoria Antenna allows the sedan to receive AM and FM broadcasts clearly to keep drivers informed and entertained. The early Ford Crown Victoria models were installed with a long telescoping Antenna made from thin steel tubing mounted near the hood. Owners had to lower the Antenna manually before squeezing into their low garages. In a bid to improve radio tech, Ford retained the familiar fender position but switched to a smaller mast Antenna that connects to the receiver via wiring and a small in-line amplifier for radio-frequency signals. Later editions of the Crown Victoria periodically integrated a glass-embedded Antenna within the windshield or rear window, which reduced wind noise and still picked up distant radio stations. Although an industry trend noted the arrival of roof satellite units with digital clarity, the company was dependent on its tried-and-tested designs as every Ford sedan that includes even the enduring Crown Victoria uses its Antenna whether with an external mast or a hidden strip to convert invisible waves into the music, news, and traffic updates that make routine journeys connected drives.

Ford Crown Victoria Antenna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to perform a resistance check and replace the antenna on Ford Crown Victoria?
    A:
To perform a resistance check, ensure the antenna cable is installed on the vehicle and unplugged from the radio, then use an ohmmeter to check the antenna between the cable and tip, expecting a reading of less than 5 ohms; if the reading is higher, replace the antenna and cable assembly. For replacement, first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For a power antenna, lower the antenna, remove the rear screws from the right side front splash shield for access, and take out the lower antenna bolt. Next, remove the nut at the top of the antenna stanchion and lower the antenna through the fender opening, using needle nose pliers to unscrew the antenna stanchion nut. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. For a manual antenna, detach the antenna lead retaining clips in the engine compartment, remove the screws, and detach the right cowl side trim panel. Then, remove the radio and unplug the antenna lead cable, take off the radio antenna base cap, remove the mounting screws, and pull the base and cable assembly through the fender opening into the engine compartment, with installation again being the reverse of removal.
