2014 Ford Mustang Axle Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install rear Axle Shaft on 2014 Ford Mustang?
A: To remove the components, it is necessary to cables the negative terminal of the battery. Turn the rear wheel lug nuts to the left but do not remove them, turn the front wheels, place the front wheels chocks, and lift up the rear of the vehicle placing jackstands under the frame before removing the rear wheels. Subsequently, remove the brake calipers and discs, the differential cover so that the lubricant drains. Should its system include ABS, then there are the rear wheel speed sensors to be removed. Remove all the links for the ABS sensor wires, hydraulic brake lines and the cables for the parking brakes from the axle housing. On all the convertible versions, you will have to lose the front, upper, and rear support brace mounting bolts. Remove and lay aside the driveshaft bolted at the differential companion flange. Rem the track bar from the vehicle and unbolt the stabilizer bar from the axle assembly. Support the differential with a floor jack and then lift the rear axle a little before you ditch the shock absorber lower mounting bolts. Loosen the upper suspension arm to rear axle housing nuts and bolts; similarly, remove the Pan hard rod bolts to take out the Pan hard rod. In case, you have to pull out the differential oil cooler temperature sensor and also take out bolts that attach the oil cooler line at two retain clips to unplug the differential oil cooler line from the rear cover. Pull the axle housing down as far as the coil springs can go, and take them out. Remove the lower suspension arm to axle housing nuts and bolts and pull the trailing arms off the rear axle assembly. Last of all, lower down the axle housing and ease out from underneath the vehicle. To remove, reverse the procedure, but before tightening the upper and lower suspension arm to axle housing nuts, raise the axle housing to mimic normal ride height. Screw the lower ends of the shock absorbers onto the rear axle housing and tighten the bolts/nuts to the specified torque. Mount the brake discs and the calipers and then fit the differential cover adding the mentioned type of oil into the cover. Lastly, fit the wheels and lug nuts, then jacked down the car and tightened the lug nuts as recommended torque magnitude.
