2009 Ford F-150 Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the intake manifold in 3.5L and 3.7L V6 engine on 2009 Ford F-150?
A: When it comes to the removal of the intake manifold, one has to first loose the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, afterwards, the engine cover as well as the air filter housing along with the hoses have to be removed. Subsequently, remove the three bolts and the engine cover bracket fixed on the intake manifold. Remove the large hose clamp holding the hose to the charge air controller and disconnect the hose first from the throttle body. Remove the electrical connector of throttle body, the PCV electrical connector, disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose coming from the intake manifold and the connectors for the MAP sensor and the EVAP canister purge valve. Furthermore, remove the vacuum hose connected to the turbocharger vacuum regulator to the intake manifold and move the pushpin of the turbocharger vacuum regulator. The manifold mounting bolts have to be unscrewed and the manifold has to be pulled off from the engine section and while doing so the intake ports have to be covered with clean shop cloths. For assembly, the old gaskets on the manifold need to unbolted and the mating area requires cleaning and the new gaskets need to be fitted and the manifold bolts with the correct sequence. If you decide to take off the lower intake manifold, you need to release the fuel system pressure first, then follow the same steps as with regard to the upper intake manifold, disconnecting and removing air filter housing, PCV tube and many electrical connectors. Lift the upper manifold off the lower manifold after pulling off the upper intake support bracket and the mounting bolts, but make sure that the air intake passages are covered. To reach the lower intake manifold, the cooling system has to be drained, and the drivebelt covered; thermostat housing and heater hose have to be removed. Disconnect the fuel line and the electrical connectors from the injectors afterwards you have to loosen the intake manifold mounting bolts in a sequential order that they can be unbolted freely. As for installation, it is recommended to clean the mating surfaces, replace the gaskets if necessary and then place the manifold, and finally, tighten the bolts to the required amount of torque. Last but not the least, replace the cooling system and switch on the engine, bare for any signs of oil or coolant leakage on the joints of the intake manifold. As to the upper intake manifold, the process seems to be similar to the lower one; it lies in gasket elimination and washing, placing new gaskets and setting the manifold, screwing the bolts according to the previous commands.
