2008 Ford Focus Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Intake Manifold in 2.0L SPI engine on 2008 Ford Focus?
A: This engine has IMRC, or Intake Manifold Runner Control, which varies the intake tract to deliver more torque at low speeds and it is installed between the intake manifold and the cylinder head using these studs. First, purge the fuel system pressure, then, shut off the coolant hose to the intake manifold and unscrew it. Bolt off the negative cable from the battery and unbolt the air cleaner intake tube. After that, remove the crankshaft position sensor electrical connector, the camshaft position sensor electrical connector and the fuel injector harness connector and if the IMRC is being removed the IMRC connector will also have to be disconnected. Move to-remove the fuel lines, take off the accelerator and kick down cables from the throttle lever, take off the cable bracket from the intake manifold. The vacuum hoses are disconnected from several parts; the EGR tube is disconnected from the EGR valve; and the engine oil dipstick tube is removed. Terminate the electrical connectors of the TPS and IAC valve, remove the intake manifold brace, the bolts and nuts of the manifold as well. Slide of the manifold off the studs and take out the gasket and make sure to clear all the remains of the old gasket and the sealant off the mating surfaces gently so as not to harm the aluminum. Thoroughly apply engine clean to the studs on the intake manifold and scrutinizing apply clean oil to the threads, furthermore, check if the intake manifold-Related Cross-Port Management (IMRC)-to cylinder head gasket should be replaced of not. Place the IMRC gasket back onto the studs and put the new intake manifold gasket onto the studs and install the manifold then tighten the nuts evenly to the indicated torque. Reverse the removal steps to complete the installation then check the coolant level, top up to the correct level if necessary.
