To facilitate removal, apply penetrating oil to the threads and allow it to soak in, tapping lightly on the fastener head to help the oil penetrate. When installing the exhaust manifold, use anti-seize compound on the fasteners for easier removal in the future. Begin by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery and the electrical connector from the heated oxygen sensor. Remove the nuts securing the exhaust manifold heat shield, applying penetrating oil to the studs beforehand. Next, remove the cooling fan and shroud, then disconnect the catalytic converter intake pipe from the exhaust manifold and remove the nuts and studs securing the EGR tube. Take off the exhaust manifold attaching nuts and slip the manifold off the studs, removing the gasket as well. Clean all traces of the old gasket and carbon from the manifold and its mounting surface on the cylinder head, taking care not to scratch or gouge the aluminum surface. Position a new gasket on the studs, install the manifold, and tighten its mounting nuts evenly to the specified torque. Finally, reinstall the heat shield and tighten its nuts to the specified torque, completing the installation in reverse order of removal.
