2003 Ford Ranger Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front crankshaft seal in 3.0L V6 engine on 2003 Ford Ranger?
A: Let the negative cable connect at the battery and then pull off the radiator. Then remove the drivebelts, the crankshaft pulley and the bolt on the topside of the engine, leading to the vibration damper. With a puller, the vibration damper then has to be pulled off. Using a seal remover tool or a standard screwdriver gently loosen the old seal without hurting the crankshaft or the seal bore. Wipe the seal area with a clean cloth; spread some engine oil on the lips of the seal and then insert it into its position with the spring side on the engine side. Apply force on the seal in order to set it into position by using a seal installer or by placing a large socket connected to a hammer and pounds it into place, positioning the seal at the timing chain cover. Replace the vibration damper with help of the damper installation tool and tight the bolt to the required torque. To complete the installation you should reverse the removal procedures, fill the cooling system and start the engine, checking for leaks.
